Hot Town, Summer in the City

I have just spent the last couple of days up in Sydney. I love Sydney, it's all go from beginning to end.

The traffic is something else! organised chaos (and even then, the organised part is only that everyone sticks mainly to the left.) Once that rule is established then it's "anything goes"

Sydney has a number of traffic tunnels to help disperse the cars and there is one in particular that is causing a great deal of angst amongst Sydneysiders and that is the Cross City tunnel which is supposed to take traffic under the city east/west to alleviate the congestion in the city itself.

What happened was they have attempted to change the traffic flows "up top" to direct the cars into the tunnel and charge, what Sydneyites consider, exorbitant tolls... so they have just refused to use it.

A perfectly good tunnel is used by an insignificant number of the 90,000 cars per day that was expected.

On Tuesday, after a hard night on the turps, a great idea was born and a mate and I went fishing. Perfectly good thing to do on a Tuesday morning on a barmy spring day. To get across the city we used the tunnel. There were four cars that I could see while we were in there. A trip that used to take 20 minutes or longer across the city in peak times took just over 3 minutes using the tunnel (and I don't think we were speeding)

The trouble was, that we didn't catch anymore fish with that 20 minutes... in fact, we didn't catch any. We did, however, help out the conservation of the fish species by feeding them with perfectly good bait. Hooks, it seemed, were just spat out after the feed.

Life is a series of images that we place importance on. The images we see, shapes our decisions to act. The view we choose to see, shapes the action we take.
