Today I was starting a new building job at a house in a place called Tura Beach. Now I have the job of organising the complete rehash of this house changing it from an early eighties type house to an ultra modern house. Its a big job and suits me right down to the ground.
This afternoon I was banging some holes in walls to check measurements and was in the process of removing a sliding door from the toilet. I gave the door a tap with my hammer and caught a glimpse of, what looked like a butterfly above my head. As I looked up and was smashed in the face by some object that splintered all over the floor after it hit me.
I instinctively reached for my face when I was hit and wondered how lucky I would be. Within seconds I could tell by the amount of blood pouring through my fingers that something was amiss.
Calmly I went upstairs and checked in a mirror. I had a gash about two inches long running from just beneath my left eye and down my cheekbone. The top part of the cut wasn't that deep but the bottom inch was deep enough as I could see right in the parted flaps of skin.
I went back down to the car and hauled out my first aid kit and working from the top of the cut, managed to pull it all together and stick it in place. I did a pretty good job as the bleeding virtually stopped. I then cleaned up the mess and tossed up whether to visit the hospital or not.
What had hit me was a six inch by six inch by 3 inch glass light fitting that disintegrated on impact
Common sense told me the hospital was the next stop so off I drove. Walked in and was seen to pretty well straight away. I said to the nurse that it would probably only need a couple of sticky strips to hold the cut together but when she took my patched up bandage, my face fell apart and blood went everywhere.
So I had to wait around for a couple of hours until a doctor was available to stitch me up. The nurse made me laugh a couple of times and in the process I lost what seemed like another cup full of blood each time
The Doctor finally arrived and after a few minutes had me all sewn up and pretty again. Apparently he was pleased with his work and reckons that I won't even have a scar... we'll find out in a few days
Life is a series of images that we place importance on. The images we see, shapes our decisions to act. The view we choose to see, shapes the action we take.
