Sometimes the thought is not enough

Now you may ask what a virtual bottle of vaseline and 50 years have in common and as I am slightly miffed, I will tell you.

A (soon to be not so) close friend of mine (lets call him Steve as we wouldn't want to upset too many people) waited till after his birthday to relay the information that he had just got a year older. Nothing wrong with that, some "old" people just can't quite accept the fact that they are old... you will notice them by the dyed hair, hipster jeans and the like. As I was saying he waited till after his birthday to tell a few friends that he was older.

Now it just so happens that I live half way around the world and so getting an instant present to him was imperative as no one likes to have their birthday missed and so I sent him a virtual bottle of vaseline.

Vaseline is a remarkable product as many people know. It was discovered about 130 years ago and has remained a favourite around the world ever since. What could be more perfect that a tub of vaseline to a older (if not wiser) gentleman (I use the term gentleman loosely here)

Today, I wake to find this "gentleman" expunging the thoughtfulness of my gift while he was able to wax lyrical about all these other marvelous gifts he received. I would love to know what could be a better gift for a fifty year old - old fart than a tub of the old vaso.

So Steve, to quote you... "Memories. Intangible presents that I can enjoy over and over." ...what could be more intangible than a virtual bottle of vaseline???

oh and by the way Steve... A Belated Happy Birthday

Another one down

It's getting to be a bit scary...

Yesterday I hopped on my pushbike and cycled 37 km just for the hell of it. It was a beautiful morning straight after daylight saving had ended and so we took off at 7.30am and headed north along the gravel roads surrounding home.

At about the 12 km mark we headed inland west. Now the roads get narrower and the views more scintillating that it is hard to imagine that the body was screaming out for a bit of a rest, especially as most of the ride had been uphill till now.

Eric had recovered enough from his prang to keep the pace up and we kept going until there was a good downhill stretch back towards the township. That made it possible to bump up the speed a little and before long we were hitting speeds of some 58kph. Not bad for a couple of "old b**tards"

We hit the main road and just for kicks, added in a loop of another 10km just to make the ride worthwhile.

Someone call in a shrink, I need my head read

It sounded like such a good idea

Well Sunday has come and gone. What started out as a bit of a challenge a couple of weeks back has been achieved, but not without more than a little blood, sweat and dare I say it, tears!

I have been going for a mountain bike ride for a couple of months now. Every Tuesday, Thursday and once in the weekend, Eric (the machine) and I have been doing a 15km stint around here and on the weekends bump that up to 21km.

Now one of the young blokes that works for me (Neris, "I know I can beat you old b**tards") has been baiting me all this time to go for this 45km ride from the top of Brown Mountain down to a few Km north of here. We have been playing him along a little but soon the crunch time came and so, this morning we were dropped off up the top.

Trackbacks

Some times the best way to explain something is to actually go out and do it... like sex, for example!

but no, in this case, its trackbacks... yeah yeah, I hear you saying, "trackbacks, how completely boring is that, especially when you could be talking about sex"

Well thank you for thinking that my conversations about sex are incredibly fascinating, I can only second your views... but we are getting away from the subject at hand which is trackbacks

Now I am sending a trackback to the very person who asked the question so you will all know who it is... and no, I have never talked to him about sex

Rest Assured

Over the last couple of weeks I have been busy in the real world. Its funny really because I haven't felt the need to "get online"

The difference between the "Real World" and the "Online World" is quite distinct. It is hard to differentiate but it is different. Online you are able to be who you want to, and the trouble with that is that sometimes people aren't who they seem, creating a false impression of life.

I have been moderating on a forum that isn't exactly mainstream but the owners intention can't be faulted. The problem is that it is attracting some weird and wonderful characters who are living in a dream world. I have taken on a different persona while moderating as my "real" persona is inappropriate. Try moderating people who are dreaming with a persona that isn't real... but I digress

I have been having a rest and feeling refreshed. Having a break allows you to evaluate the things that are important and make informed decisions rather than carrying on without checking if its the best route to take

Smelling the roses is sometimes great medicine

Life is a series of images that we place importance on. The images we see, shapes our decisions to act. The view we choose to see, shapes the action we take.
